Firefly Crepe Kurta - FLOOD SURVIVOR
Rs. 2,850.00 Rs. 1,500.00
This brick red crepe kurta has a shirt collar and buttons. Facing at the neck and hem in lungi checks. Crepe is a weave and not a fabric as the popular misconception goes. It is made from high twist yarn, hand woven and hand finished which gives it that crushed look, fall and drape.
Once upon a time, around the 1950s Kannur in Kerala used to be a major weaving hub for crepe. One story goes that every house in a village would have a loom weaving crepe, such was the demand for it. Then suddenly the market crashed and all crepe weaving came to a stand still overnight. Many a weaver lost his livelihood and had to turn away from weaving entirely. In many a village handloom society one can see bundles of crepe yarn, yellowed with age and cobweb coated relegated to the corners. This collection was born from an attempt to revive what was once of much pride.
